Patent portfolio involved in ongoing litigation
Samsung is reportedly considering placing a bid to acquire InterDigital patents, unnamed sources have told Bloomberg. If the report is accurate, Samsung may have to compete against Apple and Google. All three companies are reportedly eyeing InterDigital's patent portfolio.
InterDigital's intellectual property has been the focus of ongoing patent-infringement lawsuits. Despite the company's public acknowledgement that it is considering a buyer, complaints recently filed with the ITC point to fresh accusations aimed at Nokia, Huawei and ZTE.
Samsung, Apple and Google are said to show particular interest in InterDigital's mobile technology, as the three companies have been involved in infringement lawsuits over Android and iOS platforms. The addition of InterDigital's mobile patents is seen as a potential strategy for one of the companies to gain an edge in the battles.
Samsung has yet to confirm plans to submit a bid for the InterDigital patents.
