Samsung: Galaxy Tab 10.1 coming to Australia despite Apple

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 still bound for Australia

Samsung on Tuesday vowed that it would still sell the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia in spite of an Apple sales restriction in Australia. In a statement, Samsung claimed that the model of the Android tablet excluded from the country was one it had "no plans of selling." Without saying what differences there were, at least one version of the Tab 10.1 would go on sale soon.

"No injunction was issued by the court and the parties in the case reached a mutual agreement which stipulates that the [blocked] variant in question will not be sold in Australia," Samsung told Ausdroid. "A Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for the Australian market will be released in the near future."

Other products in Australia, as well as other tablets, weren't affected so far. Samsung went on to maintain that its mutually agreed deal wasn't a capitulation and that it would "actively defend and protect" its patent rights.

Concerns had existed that Apple had managed to get an effective ban on important Samsung hardware without the same resistance as it's currently facing in the US, Korea, and other countries. The Tab 10.1 is Samsung's primary tablet for the year and would impact Samsung's chances if taken off the market.

    Big Deal...

And those tablets will gather dust in Australia just like they do everywhere else. Yay for Samsung...

    Oh sue me

How can Samsung make a tablet that does not look similar to the iPad when the iPad uses a majority of Samsung components. I think Apple needs to take ALL manufacturing in house to Cupertino. That way they can produce they own tablet screens and other components without having to sue anybody for using the same thing. Apple can afford it and it would be the right thing to do.

Maybe Samsung should make it's own

Maybe Samsung should make and develop its own components and not use Apple's design which is why Apple is suing Samsung to begin with. Samsung was paid by Apple to build certain parts for the iPad, but not take those designs and incorporate them into there own product. That's called stealing!
