Sony NEX-7 and A77 may get August 24 intro

Sony is planning one large, multi-product launch to cover its pro- and semi-pro cameras on August 24, a scoop may have uncovered Tuesday. The highlight would be the Alpha A77, its frequently leaked 24-megapixel high-end DSLR. New to Sony Alpha Rumors' claims, however, was the addition of an A65 that would shoot at the same resolution as the A77 but at a slower frame rate to lower the price.

Hobbyists and size-conscious pros would get two new, if expected, NEX models. The NEX-7 should be Sony's first attempt to cater to pro users with a NEX using a real hot shoe, two manual control dials, and a built-in electronic viewfinder. A more modest NEX-5N would be virtually identical to today's model but bring in a new sensor, possibly the 16.2-megapixel sensor introduced with the NEX-C3.

A VG-20 NEX camcorder would also come as a sequel to the VG10, though not much is known about it.

A handful of accessories and lenses should arrive at the same time. NEX owners would get the most with a long-requested 55-210mm E-mount telephoto lens and, possibly, a 50mm f1.8 prime or macro lens. NEX-5N owners would have access to a 1024x768, OLED-based external viewfinder. Full-size Alpha owners would get an A77-oriented battery grip and a 16-50mm f2.8 lens.

Much of the pricing and shipping is unknown.
