Leaf owners can check status of battery

In January, Nissan launched an iPhone app for its Leaf electric car owners. The company has now made versions of this app available for BlackBerry (App World) and Android-based device owners (Android Market) as well. Using it, a Leaf owner can check the state of the battery charge or start charging, get an estimated driving range, and turn the climate control system on or off.

Android owners need at least Android 2.1 to take advantage of the app. BlackBerry owners have a longer runway and can use devices still running OS 5. The Apple iOS version was first and is still available (App Store). All three need an active subscription to Nissan's Carwings for their full features.
