TI may be new preferred chipset for Android 4.0

Texas Instruments revealed part of a presentation with a customized Android logo that the company will use in a promotional campaign this fall. The slide shows the Android mascot in a Western costume and elements of TI's brand and a second, Ice Cream Sandwich-styled Android. The timing of the campaign suggests a much closer bigger role in Android computing for TI. Earlier rumors have suggested that Ice Cream Sandwich would be optimized for TI's OMAP4 chipset.

Ice Cream Sandwich is scheduled for release before the end of the year.

Until recently, TI's rival NVIDIA has had a virtual lock on the Android tablet market with its Tegra 2 chipset. Amazon selected TI's OMAP4 chips for the upcoming self-branded Android tablets. Rumors of a conflict with the Tegra 2 chipset and Motorola's 4G hardware for its flagship Android Xoom tablet also might have strengthened TI's position. [via Slashgear]
