LG's Enlighten Android 2.3 slider leaks for Verizon, Sprint

updated 06:20 pm EDT, Thu August 4, 2011

LG Enlighten may be Android 2.3 sequel to Ally

Just-uncovered marketing sheets on Thursday confirmed that Verizon would soon have a spiritual successor to the LG Ally. The Enlighten should move on to an 800MHz processor and use Android 2.3 while keeping to the QWERTY slider layout of its ancestor. The design sighted by Droid-Life would center on a modest 3.2-inch touchscreen and carry a 3.2-megapixel camera on the back.

LG's usual skin for smaller Android phones runs on the Enlighten. No real mention appears to exist of Verizon-native apps, although they're likely to show. Even as a budget phone, it should still support creating a 3G hotspot with a tethering plan in place.

A matching discovery through PocketNow has shown that the phone is Verizon's adaptation of the stock Gelato Q and that a Sprint version is coming at the same time.

Even though it has just been revealed for the first time, the Enlighten is poised to have a very quick release schedule and could be in Verizon stores as soon as August 25. How soon Sprint releases its version is still to be determined.
