Nokia countdown points to N9 arriving September 23

Nokia N9 timed to arrive in 49 days

Nokia's Swedish N9 page has started a countdown that has given away the timing for the MeeGo phone. As of Thursday, the smartphone was due to arrive in about 49 days, or September 23. Claims had already been made by carriers for the late September date but, until now, hadn't been acknowledged by Nokia itself.

It's not apparent how many other countries will get the N9 at or around the same time. Europe is the primary target, and Nokia has suggested it likely won't make the N9 officially available in the US. With penta-band 3G, however, it fully supports AT&T and T-Mobile in the US as well as most Canadian carriers.

The phone is considered a possible swan song for MeeGo given the few phones planned and the switch to Windows Phone. It may still be Nokia's most advanced phone for some time with a unique button-free, real multitasking interface, a 3.9-inch curved AMOLED screen, a very fast eight-megapixel camera, and Nokia's first real NFC support in a smartphone. Versions will come with either 16GB or 64GB of storage.
