ATT starts rolling Gingerbread to Inspire 4G

AT&T on schedule began pushing out its promised Android 2.3 upgrade for the HTC Inspire 4G. The update began on a small scale on August 4, HTC said, but started reaching owners on a large scale Monday. The update is so going out over the air, although HTC's update page is offering a 269MB manual download for those who prefer to handle it over USB.

The upgrade brings users up to Android 2.3.3, keeping them locked out of Google Talk video chat but otherwise giving them all the features the hardware can access, such as the new interface polish and better management of apps and power. Inspire 4G owners also get newer Sense features like app tray sorting and the quick settings controls in the notification window.

AT&T is so far moving faster than Verizon on updating its flagship HTC phone. The Thunderbolt, essentially the same device outside of the phone network, is still officially on 2.2. Other AT&T Android phones served on a regular subscription should get 2.3 by the end of the year.
