Seagate GoFlex Turbo promises fast mobile storage

Seagate on Monday added a high-performance portable hard drive with a rare offer of special support. The GoFlex Turbo brings in-box USB 3.0 support and has a 2.5-inch, 7,200RPM drive to make better use of the faster port. As a GoFlex drive, other adapters can support eSATA or FireWire 800.

The company is also going beyond the usual warranty to offer a chance to salvage data. Each drive will have two years of coverage from SafetyNet, which will try to recover data from a broken drive either remotely, when possible, or in their own facilities. The policy is a one-time option but potentially saves hundreds of dollars or more in the event the drive has a premature failure.

Versions of the drive come with either 500GB or 750GB of storage. Both are shipping today at $120 for the 500GB disk and $140 for the larger edition.

    Nice, but...

It's USB 3.0 is rather worthless with Apple's new Mac Mini.
