Sony suffers yet another setback in 2011

More misfortune has befallen Sony, this time the London riots has resulted in its sole UK warehouse being burnt down. According to Reuters, the 20,000 square meter facility, which stores CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs and PS3 games, has been burning since at least early Tuesday morning. Sony issued a statement indicating that supplies in Britain will be affected as a result.

"There will likely be some impact on deliveries," said Yoko Yasukochi, a spokeswoman at the Japanese giant’s headquarters in Tokyo.

"We cannot determine the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage yet because it's not possible to enter the building," she said. She also confirmed that no one was injured as a result of the fire.

This latest incident adds to the disruption Sony has experienced this year with the devastating Japan earthquake disrupting production and affecting its financial results. In addition, its flagship PlayStation franchise was hit by a massive hack that resulted in the leaking of over 77 million of its customers personal details on to the Internet.
