BlackBerry Bold 9900 now at Canadian providers
The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is now shipping at Canadian providers including Bell and Virgin Mobile, with Rogers and Telus expected to update their product pages later on today as well. At the former two, the smartphone costs $600 CAD ($607) without an agreement and $170 CAD ($172) on a three-year/SuperTab contract. Rogers has already said it would charge a steep $250 for the same device.
The Bold 9900 retains the signature BlackBerry shape with a hardware QWERTY keyboard but the addition of a 2.8-inch, 640x480 touchscreen. It also gets a fast, 60 frames per second interface and a 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor paired with 768MB of RAM. It's RIM's first officially shipping BlackBerry 7 device and and also its first to handle faster HSPA+ 3G data networks.
The phone's launch is significant and unique for RIM as it arrives at all the major Canadian carriers at the same time. Most of the phone maker's launches have been staggered and, in some cases, have seen phones wait for months. American carriers could get the 9900 and its CDMA counterpart, the 9930, as soo nas this month. [via MobileSyrup]
