PS3 update turns on automatic cloud and expands 3D

Sony late Tuesday put out a new PS3 update catering to its online and 3D users. The 3.70 upgrade makes cloud saves automatic for those who have the PlayStation Plus accounts needed for the service. Gamers can flag individual games for automatic uploads and guarantee that certain games' saves are always available.

Trophies also update on the same schedule.

Players with 3D TVs also get some of the larger benefits. Those whose cameras can create 3D photos, such as the Fujifilm Real 3D W3, can see MPO photos both within the Photo Gallery app and with the usual XMB interface. Java-dependent special features on Blu-ray movies will now keep their 3D, and 3D will stay active when DTS-HD audio is going out either in Master Audio or High Resolution encoding.

Internet video is now important enough that Sony is also creating a whole dedicated category, TV/Video Services. Depending on the country, it will include Hulu Plus, Netflix, and Vudu. Any videos from the PlayStation Store will show in the feed as well.

In the PlayStation Store, users can now recommend apps to other friends with messages attached. Sony hasn't detailed when the 3.70 update arrives, though most updates come within a few days of their being made public.
