T-Mobile to replace throttling with overages for 200MB plan

T-Mobile brings back overage fees to 200MB plan
T-Mobile will switch back from throttling data speeds for mobile broadband users on its lowest-tier, $30, 200MB monthly plan to charging overage fees instead, TmoNews learned. T-Mobile explains that the plan is much more popular than it expected and has made the change in "order to remain competitive." At the same time, the plan will be grandfathered starting August 13, so it will not be offered to new users as of then.
The carrier will reportedly charge 10 cents for every megabyte over the 200MB limit up to a maximum overage charge of $30 on top of the basic plan's cost. Users are also said to get a warning when they reach 180MB and another one at 200MB. They will reportedly be urged to swap to a higher limit plan to avoid the overage charges.
In comparison, AT&T charges $15 per month for 250MB and bases overage fees on another $15 for another 250MB. Verizon has a $30, 2GB monthly option and charges $10 for every gigabyte over that.
