Mid-range Android phone features solar charger

A hands-on video of LG's solar-powered Optimus Sol has leaked on YouTube. The LG E730 OPTIMUS Sol is similar to the solar-powered prototype shown at MWC earlier this year. The source says the smartphone has a 3.8-inch AMOLED display and a 1GHz processor. The E730 in the video had Android 2.3.3 and LG's custom user interface.

The LG Optimus Sol E730 will be offered in black and silver. The source said the smartphone will be added to the Vodafone lineup, and will cost €299 ($424).

The E730 is not LG's first solar powered phone. In 2009, the company debuted the LG GD510 Pop, which had an optional solar panel. Unlike the GD510, the solar panel in the Optimus Sol E730 is integrated into the back cover.

LG has not confirmed pricing or availability for the E730 Optimus Sol. [via Best Boyz (German)]
