Streak 7 Wi-Fi to get Android 3 soon, 3G never

The Dell Streak 7 Wi-Fi tablet will get an official over-the-air update to Android 3.0 in September, an anonymous source told StreakSmart. Exactly what else will come as part of the update isn't known, but the OS should make a significant improvement to battery life. This is because the current build constantly pings the server and thus drains the battery.

The update won't arrive for the 3G version of the tablet available at T-Mobile, however, with StreakSmart saying there are no plans to ever update this discontinued tablet. It will continue to soldier on with Android 2.2 then, unless owners choose to perform unofficial updates.
