Twitter, Facebook icons added to Cloud Player

Amazon has expanded the social networking functionality available in the company's Cloud Player utility, enabling users to take advantage of Facebook and Twitter sharing. The online retailer has updated the web-based interface with dedicated icons for publishing Twitter posts and Facebook status updates. Posts include links to the Cloud Player and Amazon MP3 downloads for select tracks.

The retailer last month made significant changes to its Cloud Player service and pricing structure, enabling paid Cloud Drive subscribers to upload unlimited tracks for a limited time. The company also expanded the player's reach beyond Android and onto other platforms such as iOS.

It remains unclear if Amazon's Cloud Player will prove a viable competitor against upcoming rivals such as Apple's iCloud service. Apple has yet to detail all of the features that iCloud will bring, including its social networking capabilities, however additional information is expected to be revealed before the service launches this fall.
