AT&T planning to block Bold 9900's NFC capabilities?

Feature said to be disabled at launch

AT&T allegedly has no plans to embrace the BlackBerry Bold 9900's near-field communications (NFC) capabilities at launch. Although the hardware is likely to be capable of NFC features when it arrives in the hands of AT&T's customers, unnamed sources have told TechnoBuffaflo the carrier will implement a software block to prevent users to taking advantage of the technology.

If the report is accurate, AT&T would not be the only carrier to restrict the new BlackBerry's NFC functionality. The first Bold 9900 buyers in the UK have been dealt a similar fate, as Vodafone is not yet ready to enable NFC.

AT&T has remained quiet regarding the matter. It remains unclear if the carriers currently dodging NFC have plans to enable the features in the near future.
