Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, TV promo raises concern

Best Buy started up an unusually aggressive promo with Samsung that hinted at possible soft sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Anyone who buys a 46-inch or 55-inch, LED-lit 3D TV worth $1,500 or $2,000 gets a free, 16GB Wi-Fi version of the Android tablet. The deal gives viewers a device worth at least a quarter and up to a third of the price of the TV.

The promo starts August 21 and runs through August 27.

The deal isn't as drastic as the HP TouchPad price drop that lasted a week before HP axed the hardware. It nonetheless is unusual for a product to be given away, even in a bundle, just a few weeks into its sales run.

A possibility is that the discounting comes primarily attached to the TVs, which are a few months into their lifecycles. It would indirectly support concerns, though, that even Samsung was affected by problems with sales falling noticeably below shipments. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been one of the best received Android tablets from a critical perspective, but Samsung has been unusually silent on sell-through numbers.

    Correction

#correction The deal gives viewers a device _worth_ at least a quarter and up to a third of the price of the TV

Should be "The deal gives viewers a device _priced_ at least a quarter...". A product is only 'worth' what someone is prepared to pay for it, not for a vendor is trying to offer it at. I think that says it all.

    Hello eBay

Got a Galaxy Tab, unused, stil in its original shrinkwrap? Sell it on eBay. You'll probably get $50 for it easy.
