HTC opens bootloader unlocking to Evo 3D owners on Sprint

updated 11:00 am EDT, Fri August 19, 2011

Evo 3D next up for HTC bootloader unlock

HTC has already expanded its bootloader unlock page to include its second device, the Evo 3D. Sprint's version of the dual-core phone can now go through the web process to derestrict its firmware and have the option of installing the firmware they like. No timeframe yet exists for when the international Evo 3D would get the same treatment or if it's necessary.

The same risks apply as for earlier bootloader unlocks. HTC can't vouch for every future problem on a device being covered by the warranty. Likewise, over-the-air updates won't necessarily be problem-free.

Only one other phone, the T-Mobile Sensation 4G, remains on the list of devices. HTC won't necessarily need to do more as future phones should start shipping with the bootloader already unlocked.
