HP teases September 1 event in London

HTC on Friday posted an open invitation to the public for a special event on September 1. The London gathering would give fans and the media alike a chance to "see what's next." No clues were given as to what the device roster would be.

The date is the same as the start of the IFA show in Berlin and may coincide with launches there at the same time. It's possible the releases may be relatively low-key and include the woman-oriented Bliss, the Kingdom, and other straightforward Android launches.

Many expect it to be more ambitious. With rumors persisting of a formal launch for Windows Phone 7 Mango devices the same day, the HTC event could signal the release of the Eternity, a 4.7-inch flagship that would have a 1.5GHz processor and one of the first instances of a front camera on a WP7 device. A more modest Omega might also be available at the same time.

Although it appears to be at least partly intended for the US, the Puccini tablet could make its own showing at the September 1 gathering. It will be HTC's first 10-inch tablet and its first to ship with Android 3 out of the box.
