Nokia to unveil Symbian Belle in two days
Nokia posted a teaser Monday confirming that it would be unveiling, if not launching, Symbian Belle this week. Saying that it was only "something new on Symbian," the phone giant has put a countdown on Facebook that should expire on August 24. When initially posted, the teaser clearly referenced it being for Belle, removing all doubt as to the actual intentions.
Belle follows the Anna release that arrived just a few months ago on phones such as the X7. Most anticipate it bringing the OS closer to Android and iOS 5 with a notification bar and fast app switching. Some of the services still holding on to the Ovi badge will also likely be switched over to more direct names along with interface changes.
Nokia has pledged to keep updating Symbian for the near future, but Belle is the last known revision in the near term. Most of the Finnish company's efforts are on its fall Windows Phone launch and eventually transitioning over entirely to Microsoft for its smartphones.
