Sony Alpha A77 set for August 24 launch

The forthcoming Sony Alpha A77 DSLR has its press shots leaked ahead of its formal launch expected to be on Wednesday August 24. Although not yet released, the camera has already been nominated for an award for its unique design which includes a translucent mirror for quicker autofocus. Its CMOS sensor and double Bionz processor also enable it to shoot at a rapid 10 frames per second.

Expected to be announced alongside the Alpha A77 at its August 24 launch are the A65, 16-50 f/2.8 lens, vertical grip for the A77, NEX-7, NEX-5N, BG20, Zeiss 24mm f/1.8 for E-mount, 50mm f/1.8 OSS for E-mount, 55-210mm OSS for E-mount and new external EVF for the NEX-5N.

However, the Alpha A77 will be the undoubted center of attention at the Sony event for its technical capabilities, in addition to its magnesium alloy construction. When it launches, it is expected to retail for $1,000 in body-only form. [via Sony Alpha Rumors]
