Blio reader app hits Android phones and tablets

Blio e-books now ready for Android


Blio Reader has swung over t for Android devices (free, Android Market). The app is built on video gaming technology and offers the same 3D-aware, full color, complete page-width e-reading. It works on both smartphones and tablets running Android 2.2 or higher.

The app provides special accessibility features for those with disabilities. It also incorporates dynamic zooming to properly view text and images from section to section. Readers can choose from a variety of layouts, including book style, a multi-page view, or magazine style. Audiobooks also play directl. Aling with Blio's preferred format, it can recognize ePub, PDF, and XPS documents.

Offerings in the Blio library are provided through an arrangement with physical and digital content distributor Baker and Taylor, who converts, manages and delivers the reading material. Publishers whose books are available as downloads include Elsevier, Hachette, HarperCollins, Random House, Penguin, Simon & Schuster, and Wiley.

The Blio was initially launched PC users last September. Support for Apple iOS users was added in July.
