JailbreakMe inventor Comex signs on with Apple

Comex joins Apple as intern

Another jailbreak developer enlisted with Apple on Thursday after Comex, known in real life as Nick Allegra, revealed he would be taking an internship. The creator of JailbreakMe didn't outline his role but planned to start in about two weeks. In explaining it, he only cast the jump as shaking up his experience.

"It’s been really, really fun, but it’s also been a while and I’ve been getting bored," he said.

Comex's venture follows two months after MobileNotifier developer Peter Hajas was hired. The context was different for Hajas, who was getting permanent employment, but points to a different attitude towards jailbreak developers than in the past. Apple hasn't been aggressive against jailbreak teams themselves but, until now, was mostly just concerned about patching the exploits they found.

An internship could lead Comex into work that isn't directly related to JailbreakMe. He may be most useful to the security side of Apple, though, as he has more than once found ways to take advantage of a security hole simply by visiting a website. Most of iOS' current security model is based around the strict App Store vetting process as well as repairing exploits after they show. [image via Forbes]

    Shame...

That nowadays most smartphones require you to void the warranty before the user can see their full potential

Jailbreaking your iPhone does NOT void its warranty.

It may not void it, but if you take a jailbroken phone into apple, they're not going to fix anything with it.
