'Weak' Jobs worked full day on last day as Apple CEO

Foxconn issues brief statement on Jobs' departure

Steve Jobs was in Apple offices for a complete work day on the day of his resignation as CEO, according to a person described as "close" to the executive. Jobs is in fact said to have attended a regular board meeting, in spite of being in a "weak" condition and having been housebound for several weeks. The resignation is not a sign of a sudden plummet in Jobs' health, the anonymous source claims. A separate source alleges that Jobs had an emotional meeting with his executive staff after talking to the board, whom me told he intends to be an active chairman.

While Apple and Jobs have avoided discussing the topic directly, many have worried that Jobs' health is on a terminal downward spiral. The medical leave which ended with his resignation was his third and longest ever, having begun in January and persisted for well over eight months. During his second leave, in 2009, he underwent a liver transplant thought to be related to complications from pancreatic cancer, for which he originally received surgery in 2004. A tumor was thought to have been successfully removed at the time, but the cancer may have recurred.

Apple's main manufacturing partner, Foxconn, has in the meantime issued a statement. "Foxconn wishes Steve Jobs will get well," the statement reads. "We think Tim Cook has shown good work as stand-in CEO during Jobs’s absences and expect Apple will perform well in the future. The relationship between Cook and Foxconn has been very close and we expect that the relationship will become even closer in future."

Foxconn rarely talks about its connections with Apple. It has at times become an embarrassment, since leaks of several Apple products are believed to have originated with Foxconn workers. More importantly, despite protests from Jobs and Apple to the contrary, both critics and workers have complained of sweatshop-like conditions at Foxconn plants, which may be responsible for a string of suicides during the past two years.

I'm saddened by news of Steve's deteriorating health. I hope he recovers and lives a long healthy life.

    reports are false

The rumor mill is claiming he has been house bound for weeks and yet ignore all the reports he was on campus this week, last week, the week before etc. There have been reports of him at the Palo Alto store, all around town etc. He hasn't missed a Board meeting, he come to several product meetings. No one has said a peep about him being 'weak' or 'sickly'

He's always going to look this way, the man had pancreatic cancer and a liver transplant. You don't bulk up after that kind of stuff. You will be gangly etc for the rest of your life. And this isn't anything new to anyone that has been paying attention. Jobs went on this leave and shifted to Board member and consultant because he has no desire to over work himself to death within a year. He didn't just resign because he wanted the 8 months to show the world that Cook can handle the job. And Cook has been brilliant.

Now Captain Picard will tell Riker where to take the ship and go chill in his Ready Room while Riker plots the course, picks the speed and issues the commands. And yes he'll likely be reading a little Dixon Hill on his PADD instead of reviewing reports.

    wow!

He was at the office on his last day? That is an amazing piece of news. Of course, you'd expect that, wouldn't you? Make sure he cleans up his desk, steal some office supplies, say goodbye to the crew, leave some final instructions, drop off some ideas for some new products that are years ahead of their time. You know, I'm sure the same thing Gates did.

This man is such a hard worker, I still can't believe it. I mean he's a millionaire, he doesn't need to work hard, look at the CEO's of other companies, they couldn't care less. This man was not just a CEO, he was a caring CEO and let me tell you, there hard to find. I know Apple isn't going to last without you Steve, pretty soon we'll be seeing that crappy Adobe Ad Player being put on iPads, iOS licensed to other phones, OS X probably discontinued and replaced with Windows, and Apple will start cutting corners just like all PC makers have been doing for the past twenty years now. I know Apple will go downhill, just like they did when you left the first time in the eighties. I'll never forget you or Apple, and I recommend everyone here enjoy Apple while you can, because in the next few years I guarantee its not going to be the same.
