HP offers first batch of 6 free apps for TouchPad

HP has offered TouchPad users six free apps as the fallout from the sudden demise of its webOS 3.0 tablet continues. The company has used its Palm blog to announce the special offer. The six apps on offer range in price from $1 through to $15. The free offer on the current selection will expire on August 31 and will then be followed by another six free apps in September.

The six free webOS apps on offer for August are Glimpse ($5), Kung Fu Panda 2 Storybook ($3), Big Boss ($2), Sparkle HD ($$5), Camera for TouchPad ($1) and Audubon Birds ($15).

Users have been able to snap up the HP TouchPad for as little as $99, when it originally launched at a price of $599 just several weeks ago, before HP surprised the tech world with what seemed like a snap decision to terminate sales of all webOS hardware, including its range of Pre smartphones.

The price drop has sparked renewed interest in the device as any barriers to its adoption in the minds of users were eliminated when HP slashed its price. The initiation of the free app deal follows the runaway success of the device in the wake of its exist from the market.
