Device torn apart ahead of US launch
RIM's BlackBerry Bold 9900 has already been dissected by parts distributor DirectFix. A YouTube video provides teardown instructions for a Rogers-branded Bold, showing the compact internals and typical modular construction. Although DIY servicing typically voids warranties, the design appears to lend itself to straightforward keyboard and display replacement with a few simple tools.
The 9900 features a refined QWERTY keyboard, while the 2.8-inch display has been upgraded to 640x480 resolution. Other new hardware features include a 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, 768MB of RAM and an HSPA+ radio.
The new Bold is currently available through the major Canadian carriers, with US availability expected within days. [via Engadget]
