Leaked Toshiba tablet may be called the 'Excite'

The apparent Toshiba Thrive sequel that recently leaked may launch as the Toshiba Excite, according to information garnered from a Toshiba US trademark filing. The trademark filing clearly refers to a previously unseen Toshiba tablet that carries the new name. Toshiba is also the registered domain name holder for several websites including 'excitetablet.com,' 'excitetablet.net,' 'toshibaexcite.com,' 'toshibaexcite.net' and 'thetoshibaexcite.com,' which also lends the rumor some credibility.

The recently leaked Toshiba tablet is the most likely candidate to take on the new mantle. In the images that have leaked so far, its design appears to be substantially slimmer in its profile and constructed from more premium quality materials including brushed metal. One of the few highlights in the current Thrive design is its wide range of ports. The new tablet appears to retain this approach, although the slimmer design dictates that it will switch from full size ports to micro HDMI, micro USB and microSD types.

The new, thinner design will pitch the forthcoming tablet much more directly at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. It may see an official unveiling at IFA, which starts September 1. [via Android Police]
