    Race to the bottom

Wow. And we all thought netbooks were the ultimate race-to-the-bottom machines. Razor thin margins at the low end of the market.

But no. Now there's a new high-end race-to-the-bottom. "We're going to lose money on these machines, but we're going to look good doing it."

    Remember 1996?

Back then, Macs were really, really expensive. It was easy for Gateway 2000 and Compaq to undercut Apple's pricing, even with that costly Windows tax.

Fast forward to now. Apple's brilliant supply chain work, largely Tim Cook's doing, gives them component price advantages that few if any of their Wintel competitors can get. Apple's engineering team designs world-class hardware (and manufacturing processes) that nobody can match. The Wintel wannabes are having a hard time matching Apple's margins.

So what happened to Compaq? Swallowed by HP, then barfed back up just this month. Gateway 2000? Opened 188 Gateway Country Stores across the US, only to close them in 2004. Bought by Acer in 2007, and Acer is losing money. Times change.

    high-end race to the bottom...

    so true!

And why get on imNat... he's only joking. These copycats have to rely on Android or Windows. IF Apple licensed their OS, some of these companies would bail over to Apple in a nano-second. Apple, thank God, will NOT let that happen.

    Copy

This has more than a few nods to the MacBook Pro - Hinge design, TrackPad, Keyboard, Power Button, Cut out to enable opening the lid, I assume a magnetic catch, cut out for camera. They clearly took a MacBook Pro and used many of the design elements for themselves. Shame on you. I'm becoming less and less interested in Samsung products. I was thinking of getting one of their TVs, But now I'm thinking of looking somewhere else.

    Battery specs wrong

A Macbook pro 15inch got a 7000mAh battery, I really doubt a Laptop could only have a 1500mAh battery, same as the iPhone battery.

    Numeric keypad.

The one thing that I wish Apple's 15" and 17" would borrow from PC designs.
