Hulu Plus now active in Japan

Hulu on cue has launched Hulu Plus for Japan. The country is the first outside of the US to get Hulu and gives it a very different business model. Plus is the only option in the country and costs the equivalent of $19 per month, almost twice as much as the $8 it does in the US.

Content still largely comes from Disney/ABC, Fox, NBC, and Sony as well as their related movie studios, although Hulu has managed to get CBS onboard despite its usual holding out for more. Content tailors more towards locals but includes some American content.

Locals get one month to try Hulu for free. Initial non-desktop support focuses on iPads, iPhones, and iPod touch players, but it also includes some Android phones from Fujitsu, HTC, NEC, Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp, and Sony Ericsson. Android tablets are coming soon and will be joined by the PS3 and Xbox 360. TV use is currently limited to Panasonic TVs and Blu-ray players.
