Samsung Galaxy Wi-Fi 3.6 slips out at IFA

Hidden amidst some of Samsung's large launches at the IFA show Thursday was a new, smaller version of its Android-based media players. The Galaxy Wi-Fi 3.6 has a more moderate 3.65-inch LCD versus the large AMOLED displays of its Wi-Fi 4.0 and 5.0. Its central home button design, unique in Android, continues over from earlier models and gives it a look closer to the iPod touch.

The hardware is more modest with a 1GHz, single-core TI OMAP processor, a three-megapixel camera on the back, and a VGA camera in front. Android 2.3 runs with TouchWiz reflecting the absence of phone components. Players carry either 8GB or 16GB built-in and have microSDHC slots for more through cards.

Europe should get the Wi-Fi 3.6 in October at prices equivalent to $242 for an 8GB model and $274 for 16GB. Samsung did bring the Wi-Fi 4.0 and 5.0 to the US.

    It looks almost exactly like my 3GS

    That stainless bezel around the front is identical. Just minor cosmetic differences of a squared button and camera bezel, and the phone jack moved from the top to the bottom. It looks almost exactly like that new icon discovered in the new iPhoto beta.

    kick their asses...

    This company is just shameless in knocking off everything apple. Hopefully apple throws this into the lawsuit mix and can find alternative companies to do business with for components. This company is pure scum. Their motto - "we can't innovate so we'll just steal".

    @LenE

    Almost exactly? I have owned a 3GS and they don't look "almost exactly" the same. Don't forget the BIG Samsung Galaxy S logo on the back...or the removable storage capability and the extra capacitize buttons on the front. Really????

    @FreeRange
    How is it that is someone uses a design that somewhat looks like an Apple product people go up in arms. I swear every time I look at an Apple laptop it looks like any other laptop. Same shape - yep, keyboard - yep, screen - yep.

    Why the h*** do you people care one way or the other. Don't spend your time whining and bitching. Just VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET. Write Samsung and let them know that you bought an Apple product instead. Let them know if they were to be more original in their designs you might consider their products. But really? Bitching about it on an Apple forum....preaching to the choir dudes, preaching to the choir..

    iPod Touch

    This is a prime opportunity for Apple to show they are ahead of the rest of the pack and release a 3G-capable iPod Touch. It would also make a very nice gateway device for future iPhone customers.
