Samsung Galaxy Wi-Fi 3.6 slips out at IFA
Hidden amidst some of Samsung's large launches at the IFA show Thursday was a new, smaller version of its Android-based media players. The Galaxy Wi-Fi 3.6 has a more moderate 3.65-inch LCD versus the large AMOLED displays of its Wi-Fi 4.0 and 5.0. Its central home button design, unique in Android, continues over from earlier models and gives it a look closer to the iPod touch.
The hardware is more modest with a 1GHz, single-core TI OMAP processor, a three-megapixel camera on the back, and a VGA camera in front. Android 2.3 runs with TouchWiz reflecting the absence of phone components. Players carry either 8GB or 16GB built-in and have microSDHC slots for more through cards.
Europe should get the Wi-Fi 3.6 in October at prices equivalent to $242 for an 8GB model and $274 for 16GB. Samsung did bring the Wi-Fi 4.0 and 5.0 to the US.
