Google engineer proposes marriage with map app

Google engineer Ari Gilder on Friday revealed that he had proposed marriage to his girlfriend Faigy with a very unique combination of Google Maps and a custom Android app. Along with planning a route full of relationship memories on Maps, Gilder had Faigy given a Nexus One with a custom app that would let her check in at each point to get a rose and a picture. With the directions to each new point locked by a password, Faigy had to take a question about her relationship in that location where the answer was the password.

The final destination was Gilder himself, whose proposal was the final question. While he only teased the result, it's more than likely that the answer was "yes."

Google workers have used their own services to make proposals before, including using Street View in Google Maps. Gilder's, however, might be the first to use the mobile side and is exceptional among many proposals in relying on a custom app and check-ins to make it work.

Electronista congratulates Ari and Faigy and wishes them the best together.
