Sonos desktop and iOS apps updated for Apple tech

Sonos gave listeners a significant update Tuesday with updates to its apps to support iOS 5 and Mac OS X Lion. Version 3.5.2 of both the desktop apps (Mac, Windows) and the iOS apps (iPad, iPhone) recognize the newer Apple platforms when relevant. The Lion fixes were made to reflect a change that pushed Apple to drop the regular open-source version of Samba network file sharing for its own, preventing Sonos hardware from seeing media stored on Macs using the newer OS.

It's not apparent what compatibility fixes or feature additions will come with the iOS 5 update.

All of the apps are free to use but need a compatible Sonos speaker system or player, such as the Play:3. The Android version doesn't need an update as it doesn't need the new code either for its own OS or to talk to Lion systems.
