Team-TouchDroid gets Android multi-touch running on TouchPad

Hobbyist developers from Team-TouchDroid claim to have overcome touchscreen incompatibilities that had prevented HP's webOS-based TouchPad tablet from running usable Android builds. The group has reportedly configured touchscreen drivers that enable full multitouch support using the TouchPad's display and Android 2.3.5.

Several groups quickly began working to bring Android to the TouchPad, after HP discontinued the tablet and dropped the price to just $100. The CyanogenMod team recently demonstrated support for 2D graphics acceleration and an interface geared for tablets.

The current firmware hacks are based on Gingerbread builds, though it remains unclear if the projects will eventually achieve similar results using Honeycomb.

I really lolled when I found out exactly why they ported Gingerbread over and not the newer releases on Android. Turns out the so called "open" Android is no longer open after all, at least not the newer releases. Yes you heard right (feel free to look it up if you dont believe me), the new versions of Android are NOT OPEN SOURCE. They are closed and proprietary, just like the Apple software they have made fun of for years for being closed! Except, unlike Google, Apple never claimed to be open in an attempt to scam people into using Android, then when half the market depends on it, close it up. Smart business move Google, your now officially worse then anything Microsoft could have even dreamed of being.

My TouchPad (that I got lucky enough to purchase for $99 after standing on line for an hour at Best Buy) will stay loaded with webOS, you can keep that generic, closed source joke of an OS named after a starwars character.
