Follows Canon in adding color to its DSLR cameras

Nikon is updating its D3100 with a new designer color. The company will begin offering its entry-level DSLR, first introduced last August, in a red option. Nikon will start shipping the new color on September 22.

The 14.2 megapixels camera has a CMOS sensor, a fixed three-inch TFT LCD, 3FPS continuous shooting, and an 11-point autofocusing system. Video is recorded in H.264 format at up to 1080p at 24FPS or 720p at 30FPS.

Nikon is not the first manufacturer to offer its DSLRs in a color other than the traditional black. In June Canon added red, brown and gray hues for its Rebel T3. Pentax is also well-known for offering cameras like the K-r or K-x in multiple colors.
