Smartphone offers 3D display, 3D camera

Sharp has unveiled a new Aquos smartphone, the SH8298U, which will be initially offered to customers at Japanese carrier SoftBank. The device is focused on 3D capabilities, built around a 4.2-inch glasses-free display with qHD resolution. Users can also capture 3D video and stills from a dual-camera configuration with two eight-megapixel sensors.

Aside from the 3D features, the Android-based handset integrates a 1.4GHz Snapdragon processor, an Adreno 205 GPU, 512GB of RAM and 2GB of internal storage. The housing will also be available in red or white color schemes.

Sharp has yet to announce launch plans for the SH8298U outside of Japan. It remains unclear if the device will reach other markets to compete with other smartphones such as LG's Optimus 3D. [via Pocketnow]
