updated 02:15 pm EDT, Mon September 12, 2011

Android 2.3 knockoff lacks 4G broadband

U.S. Cellular has announced that it will bring the Motorola ELECTRIFY to its US customers. Much like the Photon 4G, the ELECTRIFY is a dual mode, Android 2.3 smartphone with a dual core 1GHz CPU and 4.3-inch 540x960 display. Onboard memory is 16GB, expandable to 48GB. However, the ELECTRIFY will be limited to Wi-Fi 802.11n wireless.

The ELECTRIFY has a front facing VGA-quality camera and eight-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash. The handset can record full HD video, and has an HDMI out for full HD playback.

The ELECTRIFY also has the Photon 4G's chassis kickstand and docking station.

The ELECTRIFY will be available from U.S. Cellular for $200 after a $100 mail-in rebate. Purchase of a data plan is required. US Cellular said it would make an announcement regarding availability "in the coming weeks."
