Ultrathin will carry a $227 price tag
Amazon is accepting pre-orders for ASUS' new Eee PC X101. The 10.1-inch ultrathin computer is one of the first notebooks to run the Windows-alternative MeeGo, Intel's Linux-based, open-source software platform. Amazon is showing a price of $227, but gives no indication when the netbook will actually begin shipping.
The X101, officially launched in July, offers a 10.1-inch 1024x600 display, an Intel 1.33GHz Atom N435 processor, and a single DDR3 memory slot. Using the lightweight OS lets ASUS rely on just an 8GB SSD for storage. The PC weighs only two pounds and is under 0.7 inches thick in its MacBook Air-like design.
Although ASUS indicates the Eee PC X101 comes in red, white or brown, Amazon is so far offering it only in black.
