ASUS prices, dates Eee Pad Slider for US

ASUS at the Pepcom event Wednesday night committed to American launch details for the Eee Pad Slider. Its unique, tilt-sliding tablet will reach the US by the end of September and cost about $475 for a 16GB Wi-Fi version and $575 for 32GB. US models will ship with Android 3.2 already installed.

The Slider is fundamentally similar to the relatively popular Transformer with a 10-inch IPS-based touchscreen, an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor at its heart, and both five-megapixel rear and 1.2-megapixel front cameras. ASUS' own customizations to Android are light.

ASUS' design is intended for those who wanted the Transformer's keyboard dock in an integrated design. While heavier and thicker than the Transformer by itself at 2.12 pounds and 0.68 inches thick, it's ligher and thinner than the three-pound, inch-thick Transformer/dock combination. Battery life will be shorter than the Transformer union's 16 hours.
