Vulkano Lava arrives depending on mobile, networks

Monsoon Multimedia has formally shipped the most recent Vulkano family of multimedia players/recorders. The Vulkano Lava is a multifunction device that can take media delivered via cable or satellite and then deliver it to computers, smartphones or iPads for viewing or remote recording. It also allows streaming content from these devices back to a TV.

The Lava runs on a C2 Microsystem CC1203 System On Chip (SOC) platform fast enough to play 1080p video. It features a composite video and analog stereo input as well as HDMI 1.2, composite, component video, and analog stereo outputs.

Devices need to have Vulkano Player installed. Player is available for Windows PCs and Macs (free, Monsoon) or iPhones, Android smartphones, and iPads ($13, App Store, BlackBerry App World, Android Market).

The Vulkano Lava is now available now for $199. Later this fall, the company will be offering the Vulkano Blast with an enhanced feature set and a 320GB built-in hard drive with local DVR capabilities for $249.
