AOC to ship 15.6-inch USB monitor for notebooks

TV and monitor maker AOC has just introduced a new mobile display, the USB Monitor. Meant to act as a secondary display for notebooks, it uses a single USB cable to send the video signal and power it even with its size. The 15.6-inch e1649fwu has a 1366x768 resolution, a claimed and unusually high 50,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and a 5ms pixel response time.

Brightness is 250cd/m2. A pivoting stand is built into the monitor and hugs the back of the display when not in use. It can be used to stand up the display in either landscape or portrait orientations.

The display is not only compatible with desktop computers, in addition to notebooks, but can support more than one attached at a time as long as the graphics hardware can handle the load.

The monitor ships in October for $139.

    Video acceleration?

Probably not. Most USB displays don't have it. Makes it more or less limited in terms of usability.
