Apple director Gore backs iPhone 5 October talk

Environmental activist and Apple board member Al Gore effectively confirmed plans for new iPhones in October through a speech at the Discovery Invest Leadership Summit. One account of his presentation given to TNW saw him mention multiple iPhones with the implications of both the Phone 5 and a cheaper iPhone 4. He also joked that he was promoting Apple's work and hinted that the timing was internal knowledge, not just a guess.

"Not to mention the new iPhones coming out next month," Gore said. "That was a plug."

Apple is now increasingly believed to be unveiling the iPhone 5 on October 4 and to ship before the month is out. Independently, The Loop's Jim Dalrymple gave a brief corroborating statement; while a member of the media, his history across publications has given him known accurate sources at Apple.

Gore's statement is odd given Apple's traditionally deep secrecy, most of all at the top level. While speaking out of turn, he may also have been voicing what's increasingly public knowledge with even Sprint leaving clues.
