Red promises Scarlet ship dates, specs on Nov. 3

Red company founder Jim Jannard announced on the company's forums that the Scarlet pro-oriented digital camera will be finally unveiled on November 3. The reveal will include technical specs and shipping information, so prices are also expected. The date coincides with Canon's scheduled Hollywood announcement, leading many to guess that RED may be using a similar 4K Super 35mm sensor as Canon, though other are quick to shoot these rumors down.

Canon itself may introduce a 4K camera to compete with the likes of RED's high-end Epic.

The camera was said to have been renamed as the EPIC-S, and whether this will indeed be the case will be revealed at the start of November. It is expected to cost as much as $12,000 and should allow HDRx (high dynamic range) recording. Otherwise, the camera should be able to shoot at 5K resolution with RAW and SSD recording.
