ZTE launches Android 2.3 Skate with 4.3" display

The ZTE Skate has started shipping world-wide. The Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) smartphone, first unveiled at the World Mobile Congress in February, is said to be designed after the style of a skateboard. Although shipping with a Snapdragon processor, it is not one of the more recent processors, and will see the device slot into the mid-range of Android devices in both performance and price.

The Skate centers on a large 4.3-inch capacitive display with a resolution of 800x400. It ships in a matte plastic case, which is 11.35mm thin and which weighs in at 148-grams.

The ZTE Skate is part of a concerted push by ZTE in 2011, which will see the Chinese company launch 30 new smartphones by the end of 2011. The company currently holds the number 5 position among the world’s leading handset manufacturers.

The company’s plans also include launching 4G handsets in the second quarter of 2012.
