Google exec specially tasked with integrating Motorola

Google's Woodside to help merge Motorola staff

Google has appointed an executive specifically to integrate newly acquired Motorola. After poaching Groupon COO Margo Georgiadis to become its Americas president, Google has shifted current president Dennis Woodside to working directly with Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha. He will also report directly to Google chief Larry Page and CFO Patrick Pichette.

The executive "wanted a new and exciting challenge," according to Google's chief business officer Nikesh Arora.

What Woodside will do for the integration is a mystery. Most certain are basic organizational and infrastructure changes, such as identifying what divisions at Google and Motorola report to each other or getting them on similar IT systems.

More recent details have pointed to more substantial work ahead. Google initially insisted that it would keep Motorola at arm's length and was focusing on patents, but it has gradually come to admit that it also wants Motorola for hardware. Leaks have also hinted Google might emulate the iPhone model and have a completely integrated phone where every aspect of the hardware and software has been designed by Google, even more so than on a reference phone like the Nexus S. Top to action items for Dennis:
    1. Casual Fridays. No white shirts / pocket protectors on Fridays.
    2. Copy Apple even more.

So, do all the major Android vendors still think it's cool that Google bought Motorola?
