Toshiba Canvio 3 and Canvio Basics arrive

Toshiba on Monday morning upgraded its Canvio drives with its third generation. The 2.5-inch portable drives get a speed update as the slightly more frugal drives now support USB 3.0, bringing them up to speed with the regular disks. Windows owners who get the full Canvio drives now get NTI's BackupNow EZ to back up content either locally or to the cloud, including specific files and folders.

Going to the fuller drives brings 256-bit encryption and anti-shock drive parking. Ether drive can be formatted to use with a Mac, although the regular Canvio will lose NTI's app in the process.

Capacities of 500GB, 750GB, and 1TB are available for both lines. The Basics drives cost $80, $100, and $130 respectively, with a $10 premium applied to the NTI app on the regular Canvios.
