Skype iOS apps get anti-shake and hands-free calls
Skype added two of its more commonly requested features to its iOS apps. Both Skype for iPads (App Store) and for the iPhone (App Store) now have software-based anti-shake correction. The trick helps reduce the jitter effect from natural handholding and bumps, especially when walking.
Bluetooth support is now at last built into the app. Owners with Bluetooth headsets can use the pairing to handle audio calls from up to Bluetooth's 33-foot maximum distance, much as they would regular phone calls.
Free users will be disappointed by the inclusion of ads, however. Similar to the 5.4 Mac update, those who don't have Skype Credit or a subscription will see visual ads in the app. Skype has promised no ads in the calls themselves.
The apps as before support all iPads as well as every iPhone and iPod touch outside of the very first models. These last two devices also get a security fix. It's not clear when Android owners will get the same upgrade.
