Dell Streak Pro 101DL goes dual core, qHD AMOLED
Hoping to shed its reputation for mid-range and budget smartphones, Dell has taken the unusual approach of going for the very highest end of the field with the Streak Pro 101DL. Borrowing the name of Dell's tablets, it's rare in carrying a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED screen at 540x960; most AMOLED screens stop at 480x800. A dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor, an eight-megapixel rear camera, and a 1.3-megapixel front camera also put it more clearly at the top of the ranks.
The design is the first Dell phone to ship with Android 2.3 from the start. Customizations aren't clearly in view, but it should have the Stage 2.0 interface and SyncUp on top of an otherwise lightly altered OS.
As part of SoftBank's winter lineup in Japan, the Streak Pro won't be available until January. The carrier does note that the phone supports up to 14.4Mbps 3G on AT&T's 850MHz and 1,900MHz bands, suggesting that it may be shown at Dell's usual CES event that same month with the prospects of an American release.
