Monitors take from tablet, smartphone tech
LG has announced a new monitor series, labeled IPS5, that is built using in-plane switching (IPS) panels. The technology, which is utilized by smaller products such as the iPad and iPhone, offers a much wider viewing angle when compared to standard LCDs. LG also claims its new monitors provide improved color reproduction, with color-calibration reports provided with each unit when it leaves the factory.
The series is available in 21.5- and 23-inch sizes, each with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 1920x1080 resolution. The panels are claimed to provide 250-nit brightness, 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 14ms response time.
LG has yet to announce pricing for the IPS5 monitors, which are expected to ship this month.
