Monitors take from tablet, smartphone tech

LG has announced a new monitor series, labeled IPS5, that is built using in-plane switching (IPS) panels. The technology, which is utilized by smaller products such as the iPad and iPhone, offers a much wider viewing angle when compared to standard LCDs. LG also claims its new monitors provide improved color reproduction, with color-calibration reports provided with each unit when it leaves the factory.

The series is available in 21.5- and 23-inch sizes, each with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 1920x1080 resolution. The panels are claimed to provide 250-nit brightness, 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio and 14ms response time.

LG has yet to announce pricing for the IPS5 monitors, which are expected to ship this month.

    Not just iPad and iPhone

The iMac, as well as the Cinema Display and the Thunderbolt Display, use IPS panels as well.

    IPS coming from mobile?

Clearly, who write this article don't know anything about LCD technology. Before Apple no one was using IPS LCD for mobile product. IPS technology was first use on regular size screen and then apply to smaller screen, and not the other way like the article reported.

BTW there is no "Standard LCD" but 3 different way how to built LCD screen (TN, PVA and IPS) so by standard this article should refer to cheap sub 300$ LCD screen.
