HP may bring webOS to DesignJet printers
A source from HP speaking with Pocket-Lint revealed the company still has plans to use its webOS mobile platform in its line of printers. This, despite discontinuing the TouchPad tablet that used the software and fresh rumors that have HP in talks with Amazon on selling the OS. The software would be used in HP's DesignJet range of professional printers.
The news came during the HP Impact event in Dublin this week. The webOS printers would likely appear sometime next year. Whether a sale to Amazon or any other party would affect these plans hasn't been revealed, though it is likely. There was no indication of any other HP products getting the mobile OS as well.
Previously, HP has still left the door open for webOS to show on virtually every non-mobile device it makes, including its home PCs. With the PC business possibly spun out in 12 to 18 months, it's not certain how far HP would be willing to go to support webOS beyond what it expects will stay inside the company for the future.
